Itanagar, March 9, 2019:

Veteran politician Gegong Apang, who served as Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister for two stints (from 18 January 1980 to 19 January 1999 and again from August 2003 to April 2007) is back again in the public limelight. The leader who quit the BJP on 15 January, 2019 during the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill ruckus, has emerged to join the voices against the Pema Khandu-led BJP Government in the state as the political situation in the frontier state heats up before the 2019 General Elections.

Apang has now joined Janata Dal (Secular) and is now the party’s Northeast in-charge. Today, Apang and the JD (U) joined forces with the People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) and the Congress to condemn the BJP Government for the situation of unrest in the state over the granting of PRC to non-APSTs. Senior Congress leader Takam Sanjoy and PPA President Kafa Bengia were also present at the massive demonstration in front of Raj Bhavan, Itanagar. The opposition, while demanding the scalps of CM Pema Khandu and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, claims that police did not operate under standard procedure.

The Ex-CM posted the following on Twitter: “Participated in Peaceful Dharna against the Violence in Capital Itanagar. The CM must resign. Investigation of the firing incident is a must. The Govt should not give hollow promises. The misrule by BJP govt has to end.”
