Postpaid Mobile Services Restored in J&K After 72 Days

J&K, October 14, 2019:

The Jammu and Kashmir administration has restored postpaid mobile phone connectivity in the valley on 14 October. Meanwhile, security forces have been asked to take all precautionary measures.

It may be noted here the services had been suspended in the wake of the abrogation of Article 370 and 35A in Jammu and Kashmir, which granted special rights to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

The state administration has declared that over 40 lakh postpaid mobile phones will become operational from Monday noon. However, 20 lakh prepaid mobile phones, will remain suspended.

It may be recalled that the central government had ended Jammu and Kashmir's special status on August 5, and split it into two union territories.

A shutdown was imposed in capital Srinagar, and people were advised to stay away from the troubled region. However, the advisory preventing tourists from visiting the state was lifted last Thursday.

Last month, the government had restored landline connections. However, the internet services in the region are still suspended, it is learnt.
