Guwahati, June 11, 2019:

The Hemo-Dialysis Centres under Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme (PMNDP) will run in 18 locations in Assam in Public Private Partnership mode. M/s Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, Chennai  has been chosen through detailed selection process by National Health Mission, Assam to implement the Programme in Assam.

The agreement was signed on 5 February 2019 for a period of five years. Apollo Hospitals is already operating in 14 Hemo-Dialysis Centres in Andhra Pradesh under the same programme on 132 Hemo-Dialysis machines. They have conducted 56,911 sessions till May 2019 in Andhra Pradesh.

In Assam, the first session was conducted successfully at Swahid Mukanda Kakati Civil Hospital, Nalbari in presence of Consultant Nephrologist and Medical Superintendent on 4 June 2019.

Hemo-Dialysis Centres is largely concentrated in Private Sector. The services in public sector is only provided by three medical colleges which is not able to cater the tremendous load of patients.

The average cost of dialysis session is from Rs. 2000.00 –  Rs. 3000.00  in addition to the  cost of travel and medicines & other consumables. This therefore leads to financial catastrophe for practically all families with such patients.

The PMNDP under the National Health Mission  was announced in Union Budget 2016-17 with an objective to provide free  Hemo-Dialysis to the patients suffering from kidney related diseases.
