AGARTALA: Tripura royal scion Pradyot Manikya Debbarma, chairman of Tipraha Indigenous Progressive regional alliance, has reacted to the results of Assam and West Bengal assembly polls as “irony” as CAA failed to serve its motive and said all the losing parties did not have an "undisputed local leader".

“Irony CAA was introduced to win Bengal for BJP but they lost, it was supposed to burn the party in Assam but they won. In both cases, the parties who lost did not have a clear undisputed local leader,” a tweet by the TIPRA chief read.

Pradyot Manikya had made headlines recently when his newly formed party TIPRA had swept the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) election by a thumping majority ousting incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party.

Pradyot Manikya had emerged as the new regional face of the Northeast afterward and hailed all across the nation.

Assam had seen a turmoil in  2019 after the central government pushed forward the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 in the Parliament, which had given an upper hand to the Hindu Bangladeshi immigrants and also violated the terms of the Assam Accord.

This year Assam election was thought to be a crucial one between the nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party and sub-nationalist Assamese people which might cause harm to the BJP. Even Congress came with an anti-CAA scheme and two regional parties -- Assam Jatiya Parishad and Raijor Dal -- had been formed.

Instead of harming BJP, non-unity and lack of vision among the opposition had given BJP a thumping majority where it meant to be suicidal.

On the other hand, where it should have profited, the BJP in West Bengal, which did partially, but under the aggressive leadership of Mamata Banerjee, another daughter of the soil, fell like nine pins.
