Pradyot Manikya extends financial help to next kin of Anti-Bru clash victims

The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Chief Pradyot Manikya on Tuesday gave away extra-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of Biswajit Debbarma and Pindulal Chakma, who were killed in a clash between security personnel and anti-Bru protestors in North Tripura last year.

AGARTALA: The Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (TIPRA) Chief Pradyot Manikya on Tuesday gave away extra-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each to the families of Biswajit Debbarma and Pindulal Chakma, who were killed in a clash between security personnel and anti-Bru protestors in North Tripura last year.

The royal scion also provided an extra amount of Rs 25,000 for the ailing father of Biswajit Debbarma.

Taking to Twitter, the TIPRA Chief said, "After coming to power in the TTAADC we must never forget that we are here for our people and unity".

On November 21, last year, Biswajit Debbarma, 26, was stopped and attacked by a mob of protestors in Panisagar area who were protesting the Bru Resettlement Pact. He used to work at the Fire Service Department of Damsara. As per reports, Debbarma was on his way to visit his daughter who had fallen ill to a town called Nepaltilla

After the attack, he succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Agartala.

Another victim, Pindulal Chakma was a scheduled tribe of Laljuri Burshingpara under Kanchanpur Police Station in North Tripura district. He sustained grievous injuries in an attack by a group of men on October 22 last year while holding a peaceful protest against grabbing of his lands. He succumbed to his injuries after 12 days of attack.

Along with Pradyot Manikya, Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) Chief Executive Member, Purna Chandra Jamatia, TIPRA Motha President B.K. Hrangkhal and other leaders also visited late Chakma'a house
