Prag Channel Jounalist Killed in Road Accident

Guwahati, May 29, 2019:

A journalist belonging to the PRAG news channel, which is one of the leading news networks in the region, has tragically died after a vehicle he was travelling in met with an accident.

The deceased, Amulya Dutta, was based in Numaligarh in Assam's Golaghat district. A scooty he was travelling on a scooty when he accidentally collided with a truck bearing the registration number AS-05-C8885. The scooty he was riding lay in a crumpled heap after the accident, while the collision left a small dent in the truck.

It may be mentioned that a few journalists have had a rather torrid time in Assam in recent times. On March 21, journalist Chakrapani Parashar was stabbed after an altercation with a restaurant owner. This raised an outcry in media circles, with the Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) demanding justice for Parashar.

More recently, journalist Rajen Deka was attacked at Mukalmuwa in Nalbari district of Assam and allegations were made regarding the involvement of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activist Ripul Deka alias Baba’s supporters in the attack.

Rajen Deka, a correspondent with Assamese daily 'Dainik Asom' from Mukalmuwa was attacked with sharp weapons at Tegheriattari village of Mukalmuwa in West Nalbari on Thursday night. Later, he was rushed to a local hospital at Mukalmuwa and shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH).
