GUWAHATI: At a time when the economic downfall has caused 'Modi job do' to trend nationwide, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi has launched a statewide protest in poll-bound Assam against the rampant unemployment following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

On the day of her visit to poll-bound Assam, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, gave a boost to the Congress’ ongoing campaign in Assam.

 

Vadra today launched a protest marking the Party’s disapproval against rampant unemployment in the State.

 

Before proceeding to the protest, she took blessings at Kamakhya Temple on behalf of the Congress Party.

 

A large number of Congress supporters joined Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Lakhimpur in large numbers.

Congress Party- General Secretary AICC Sri Jitendra Singh, Secretary AICC Sri Bhupen Borah, Secretary AICC Sri Rana Goswami, party president APCC Ripun Bora, and Manifesto Committee Chairman APCC Gaurav Gogoi, were some of the leaders who joined Gandhi at the protests today.

 

At the Employment Exchange Office and the Deputy Commissioner's Office in Guwahati, Jury Sharma, the secretary of the All India Mahila Congress led a large gathering echoing their demands for employment opportunities.

 

The protests today took place as a state-wide agitation, across all districts.

 

State NSUI leaders, APCSD young brigade, minority department, and others, intimated their respective district units to actively participate in the protest and mark their dissent against the ruling dispensation.

 

It needs mention here that Gandhi is slated to visit North Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts, where she will participate in road shows and rallies to help the Congress’ cause.

 

On Friday last, the Election Commission of India announced that Assam will go to Assembly elections in three phases beginning March 27.

 

The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
