New Delhi, July 4, 2019:

Priyanka Gandhi, the former Congress President Rahul Gandhi's sister and the party's General Secretary in Uttar Pradesh, took to social media platform Twitter today to express her sentiments after RaGa (as Rahul is lovingly called) announced his decision to step down as the Congress Chief.

Commending Rahul for his "courage", Priyanka wrote: "Few have the courage that you do Rahul Gandhi. Deepest respect for your decision."

Rahul had earlier penned an emotional open letter announcing his resignation which he had shared on social media platforms.

The Gandhi scion said that it was an honor for him to serve the party, who values and ideas have served as a lifeblood of the nation. He said that he owes the country and the party a debt of gratitude and love.

“As President of the Congress I am responsible for the loss of 2019 election”, Rahul Gandhi wrote.

Taking accountability for the loss of the election, he said that rebuilding the party requires hard decisions and stated that numerous people will have to be made accountable for the failure of 2019.

Taking at jibe at the ruling BJP in his farewell letter, Rahul said that an attack on the country and the Constitution is “designed to destroy the fabric of the nation”. He said that he is not stepping away from the ‘fight’ and said that he will continue to ‘protect’ the nation till his last breath.

Meanwhile, there is immense speculation over who will replace Rahul as the Congress party's Chief. There are in fact murmurs that Priyanka could herself assume leadership of the party.
