GUWAHATI: Indian National Congress (INC) General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi today visited the historic shakti peeth Kamakhya, one of the primary tourist attractions in Assam.

 

Gandhi, who landed in Assam in the morning today to blow the Congress party's bugle in the poll-bound state, was accompanied by Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Ripun Bora, Assam Congress in-charge Jitendra Singh, and other party stalwarts. The Congress delegation visited the renowned shrine around 8:30 am in the morning.

 

 

Abdul Khaleque, Congress MP who represents Barpeta in the Lok Sabha, wrote on Facebook that Gandhi "sought blessings of Goddess Maa Kamakhya at the iconic Kamakhya Temple for strength, accord and prosperity of Assam."

Gandhi is slated to visit North Lakhimpur and Biswanath districts, where she will participate in road shows and rallies to help the Congress’ cause.

Gandhi's visit is expected to provide a boost to the party's ongoing campaign as it seeks to capture at least 126 Seats to unseat the BJP-led coalition government from the power corridors of Dispur.

Gandhi will participate in a series of smaller gatherings and address a mammoth gathering in Tezpur town.

 

 

Gandhi is also scheduled to meet PCC OB’s, DCC Presidents, BCC Presidents, Mandal Presidents, Senior leaders, and frontals of ten districts in the North Bank and Upper Assam region in North Lakhimpur College playground.

 

On February 14 last, Rahul Gandhi kickstarted the Congress' campaign in the state, announcing that the Grand Old Party will adopt the contentious 'CAA' as its primary poll plank.

 

On Friday last, the Election Commission of India announced that Assam will go to Assembly elections in three phases beginning March 27.

 

The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
