Pulwama Marytr Major Dhoundiyal’s wife joins Indian Army

NEW DELHI: Nitika Kaul, the wife of Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal , who was martyred in a gun battle with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorists in Kashmir's Pulwama two years back, joined the Indian Army on Saturday.

Nikita Kaul has been now commissioned as a Lieutenant in the Indian Army after she passed out from the Officer’s Training Academy in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on Saturday.

Speaking on her achievement Kaul said, “My journey has just started. The last 11 months have taught me a lot of things. I would like to thank everyone who supported me especially my mother-in-law and my mother. I would not been able to do this without you two.”

She further said that the constant support from her mother and mother-in-law made her journey easier so far.

Major Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal & Nitika Kaul got married in the year 2018 and just a year later her husband got martyred in the Pulwama attack.

After her husband’s death, Kaul made up her mind to join Indian army following her husband’s footsteps.

In the year 2020, Kaul  cleared SSB for SSCW (Tech).

The chief of the army's Northern Command Lieutenant General YK Joshi piped stars on Kaul’s shoulders during a ceremony at the Officers Training Academy in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai.

The PRO, Udhampur, HQ of Northern Command tweeted to congratulate Nitika Kaul.

"Maj Vibhuti Shankar Dhoundiyal made the Supreme Sacrifice at #Pulwama in 2019, was awarded SC (P). Today his wife @Nitikakaul dons #IndianArmy uniform; paying him a befitting tribute”, he said.

Netizens are lauding Kaul's achievement calling it a befitting tribute to her husband's sacrifice.
