TOKYO: Indian shuttler Pusarla Venkata Sindhu, known as PV Sindhu, has outlasted her opponent Akane Yamaguchi in the quarterfinals of the women's badminton singles in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics and become the first-ever Indian to qualify for the semifinals in back to back Olympics.

PV Sindhu has breezed into the semi-finals by sealing a 2-0 win against Japanese opponent Yamaguchi, winning the first game 21-13, followed by a 22-20 score in the second.

Sindhu has not lost a single game in the Tokyo Olympics yet and this marks her fourth consecutive win.

Sindhu will get down on the court on July 31 for her semi-finals match against the winner of the Ratchanok Intanon vs Tai Tzu Ying match.

Earlier today, Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain has sailed into the semi-finals and secured at least a bronze medal for India.
