Addressing the Speaker during a discussion on the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amend) Bill, 2019, Daimary said that in 1883, Sanbudon Phonglo was martyred while fighting the British in Cachar. Likewise, Maniram Dewan, Kanaklata ji, Maniram Kachari, etc, and many others died along with them, and they need to be remembered, Daimary said.

Daimary also urged the Government to preserve the historical places in the state such as the site in Tezpur where an important episode in Indian mythology (the Harihar War) took place, should be commemorated. "The historical evidence is still there, it is an integral part of our civilization", he said, adding that the Archeology department is not doing anything to protect these historical places of great significance.

"These kinds of places -- in Assam and Northeast -- should be preserved. So that people go there. These places are evidence that the Northeast and India are the same", the Rajya Sabha MP said, adding that the Indian Government should take steps to ensure that these places are preserved and protected.
