Guwahati, October 22, 2018:

Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi alleged that the Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, did not get the respect he deserved when he had visited Assam for the first time after becoming the CJI and for this, the state government should apologise to him.

Talking to reporters, Tarun Gogoi said, “The government should have made proper arrangements for CJI Ranjan Gogoi as per protocol but they instead made better arrangements for BJP chief Amit Shah. They made better arrangements for a simple MP instead of the CJI and as a result, Ranjan Gogoi had to face a lot of inconveniences.”

The CJI was made to wait for at least 30 minutes at the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati as Amit Shah and Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal along with other BJP leaders were visiting the temple at the same time and there was a large crowd, mostly BJP workers. He had to wait at the temple premises due to the massive rush and lack of arrangement for his visit.

A source from Kamakhya temple told InsideNe, "Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and the BJP leaders both reached the temple almost at the same time and so, a huge rush was seen at the temple. Moreover, the temple was open for only about one and half hour so the crowd was huge."

The administration on learning about the situation immediately made arrangements for the CJI and his family.

The source said the CJI did not face any problem and went back home after happily offering his prayers. The source added that the CJI comes to offer prayers at the temple every year
