Alipurduar, August 25, 2019:

The remains of the Gorkha soldier, Naik Rajiv Thapa, who was recently martyred in Jammu and Kashmir, were brought back to his house in Mechpara village in West Bengal's Alipurduar district today.

His remains were greeted by thousands of teary-eyed villagers who had come out to catch a last glimpse of the war-hero.

The life of the 34-year-old was nipped in the bud when he was killed in a crossfire with Pakistani armed forces in Jammu & Kashmir on Friday. The encounter took place in Nowshera sector of Jammu & Kashmir’s Rajouri district.

Rajiv is survived by his wife, Khusbu Mangar Thapa.

Incidentally, today is also the 75th death anniversary of the first Gorkha martyr of the Indian Freedom Movement, Durga Malla.
