Renowned Assamese Film Editor Manas Adhikari No More

Assamese Film Director and Video Editor, Manas Adhikari, popularly known for his travel series “Bidexot Apun Manuh” is no more.

The senior film director committed suicide at his own residence on Sunday evening by hanging himself from a ventilator of his residence. He left behind his wife, a son and a daughter.

According to reports, Manas Adhikari was undergoing treatment at rehabilitation for his addiction to alcohol.

Manas made his debut in the Assamese Film Industry as an assistant director under Munin Baruah in the film, “Pahari Konya” in the year 1987.

He also worked with renowned filmmakers Hemanta Dutta, Shiva Thakur, and many others as Assistant Director. Later, the senior film director adapted his editing career by assisting senior film editor Tapan Dutta.

He had a great contribution to the Assamese Film Industry. His skills were well depicted in many films like Joon Jole Koaplot, Ujanir Dujoni Gabhoru, and many more.

He won many awards including the Assam State Award for Best Editing in 2007, Moon Light Media Award for four consecutive years from 2001 to 2004, the RAPA Award in 2004, Jyotirupa Joint Media Awards for three consecutive years from 2003 to 2007, the Prag Cine Award in 2004 and the NE People’s Choice Award 2004.

The senior film director studied at St. Thomas School in Kolkata from 1976 to 1979. Then he moved to Assam and completed his schooling from Kendriya Vidyalaya, Narengi. He completed his graduation from Cotton College from the science stream.

He was also the Channel Head of NE HI-FI from 2010 to 2011.
