GUWAHATI: Fearing the horse-trading of the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Congress is gearing up to put their horses under surveillance from today, as the party has reportedly booked rooms in several resorts and hotels of Assam including 42 in Greenwood Resort, Tezpur.
The Congress has said that it had organized a meeting at Kiranshree Grand in Azara with all party members and candidates to discuss their poll performance and future strategies that were presided over by Assam in-charge Jitendra Singh Alwar.
According to InsideNE sources, the party has not yet informed their candidates that they are most likely to be kept at several hotels in Tezpur, Kaziranga and Guwahati. Three air-conditioned buses were seen waiting outside the Kiranshree Grand as well.
According to sources, apart from Kiranshree Grand, the Congress party had booked rooms in hotel KRC in Tezpur and some other places of Kaziranga and Guwahati as well till May 3.
However, the party leaders have claimed this to be rumors. Congress legislator Debabrata Saikia said talking to the media, “Horses are not even ready yet, why would traders buy them?”
“No horse-trading is going to take place in Congress. The Election Commission cannot be trusted. We have already seen how EVMs were being rescued from the BJP candidate’s vehicle. Hence we have gathered here to discuss those issues before the countings,” said Jitendra Singh Alwar.
The Congress-led Mahajot parties AIUDF and BPF had already sent their candidates out of Assam. But the AIUDF candidates have come back from Rajasthan due to the surge in COVID-19 cases. Now, they will be kept in Assam as well.
Congress was supposed to deport their candidates too. But the sudden surge in COVID-19 cases and fears of another lockdown has seemed to make them change their plans.
