Assam's internationally renowned filmmaker Rima Das has once again made the State proud by representing the Northeastern State at the Cannes film festival this year.

Rima has already brought many laurels to the State with her two famous films ‘Village Rockstars’ and ‘Bulbul Can Sing’. At Cannes, the darling of movie critics Rima participated in various events at one of the world’s most prestigious film festivals.

She was also chosen as a panellist at the ‘India Pavilion’ of the Cannes film festival. The event was organized by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India and inaugurated by the Ministry secretary Amit Khare.

Apart from Rima, the other panelists in the ‘India Pavilion’ included dignitaries such as Samit Kakkad, Samir Sarkar, Manish Mani and Pankaj Kumar Pandey.

Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) chairman Prasoon Joshi and producer Bobby Joshi were also present at the event.

One of the main topics that was discussed at the event was how to make regional films from India reach a pan-world audience and Rima also shared her views regarding the same.

She later interacted with the students of Georgia University where she discussed about her films with them. Rima also took in some visual delights during her visit to the prestigious festival as she also attended the screening of some films which were being screened at Cannes.

Rima also watched the renowned filmmaker Pedro Almodovar's film 'Pain and Glory' at the festival. "And it totally lived up to my expectations. Loved it!", she wrote on Facebook.

Rima Das, who hails from Chaygaon in Assam, first burst onto the scene with her debut film 'Village Rockstars' (2017) which won several National and international accolades.

She won India's National Best Film and Best Editor Awards, announced on 13 April 2018 by Government of India appointed jury headed by filmmaker Shekhar Kapoor.

Her second directorial venture 'Bulbul Can Sing' is also wowing film connoisseurs worldwide as it is has been screened in many International-level film festivals.
