Indian cricketer Rishab Pant tests COVID positive in England

GUWAHATI: Rishab Pant, star wicketkeeper-batsman of the Indian cricket team has tested positive for COVID-19.

Rishab Pant who is currently in England got infected with the infection even after receiving the first dose of the COVID vaccine, reports said.

The wicketkeeper-batsman received his first dose of COVID vaccine on May 13.

According to reports, Pant also took a COVID test eight days ago and was found to be asymptomatic.

After competing in the inaugural World Test Championship final in Southampton, Team India was given a 20-day rest.

Only one player of the team has been infected with the virus and he has been in isolation for the last eight days, confirmed Rajiv Shukla, vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Team India is set to play a practice match against Durham ahead of the five-match Test series against England.

The Test series against England is scheduled for August 4.

The practice game will start on July 20.

However, Pant will not be travelling with the team to Durham in North East England for the practice match since he is infected with the COVID infection.

Rishabh Rajendra Pant born 4 October 1997 is an Indian cricketer who represents India, Delhi, and the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as a middle-order wicket-keeper batsman.

He was selected to India's squad for the 2016 Under-19 Cricket World Cup in December 2015.

Pant hit the fastest 18-ball fifty fastest at this level on February 1, 2016, during the tournament.

In January 2017, he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for India, and in August 2018, he made his Test debut.

In October 2018, he also made his One Day International (ODI) debut.
