AGARTALA: Pradyot Manikya, the scion of the erstwhile princely state of Tripura and founder of the Tiprasa Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance (or TIPRA) is all set to take over the reins as the next chief executive member (CEM) of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).

This has been all but confirmed after the royal scion met the state governor.  Yesterday evening, Pradyot along with TIPRA's elected representatives met Tripura Governor Ramesh Bais at the Raj Bhawan and staked claim to form the new council.

He said he will take oath as the chief executive member (CEM), the principal executive functionary of the tribal council.

The TTAADC area comprises two-third of the territory of the state and is the home to the tribals, who constitute one-third of Tripura's population.

After meeting Bais, Pradyot told reporters that the government will notify the dates for the oath-taking ceremony.

TTAADC areas have been witnessing sporadic violence since the results for the TTAADC elections were declared on Saturday.

Inorder to avert the imminent tension, the administration had already imposed section 144 in certain areas of four districts, it failed to thwart the miscreants completely.

In the election to the TTAADC, results of which were declared on Saturday, TIPRA won 16 seats out of 23 it had contested while its ally INPT won 2 seats.

The election was held for 28 seats of TTAADC.
