KOHIMA: All private vehicles allegedly plying as a local taxi within Kohima have been banned by the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Kohima.

The decision was taken during a meeting held on March 23, said SY Sanglee Chang, Regional Transport Officer Kohima.

Illegal taxis spotted plying will be penalised as per provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

A notification will be issued urging the public to use proper local taxis and not illegal taxis as well as to report the over-charging fares to the following numbers—7005986027, 7005986028.

At the meeting, it was also decided that the fares of city buses, local/ regional taxis & two-wheeler taxis would remain the same pre-Covid 19 till reviewed and notified by RTA.

The meeting also discussed that the pre-COVID 19 fares for city buses, local/regional taxis, and two-wheeler taxis would remain the same until the RTA is checked and informed.

The new city bus fare will be debated at the next RTA meeting, said, officials.

The committee also discussed DEF Kohima's suggestions for bus stands, local/ regional taxi stands, two-wheeler parking, tata parking, and fruit/ food stalls, which were proposed by DSP (Traffic) and Kohima Village Youth Organization.

The Committee also addressed the city bus owners' union's proposal for a rate reduction for city buses, as well as two-wheeler taxi fare circulated in the media.

It further mentioned that a joint committee of the district administration, police, KMC & Smart City, and the M.V. Department will send a detailed report to the RTA on the fourth night for further action.
