London, July 6, 2019:

Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik has announced his retirement from One Day International cricket following the Green Brigade's disastrous World Cup 2019 campaign.

Pakistan won their final group game against Bangladesh, but they failed failed to qualify for the semifinal stage of the tournament.

Malik did not feature in Pakistan's playing XI for their final group-stage match against Bangladesh, and he announced his decision to retire after the team's final match against Bangladesh.

Malik finished his ODI career with 7534 runs at an average of 34.55 from 287 matches. However, he had a horrific World Cup tournament and could amass just 8 runs in three matches.

While addressing the press, Malik said: "I have no regrets. But it’s just that I have been too flexible in my batting order. I have batted wherever the team wanted. I have been dropped many times, I missed a few years of international cricket and have been around for 20 years, Malik said. I am disappointed to be judged on two bad games here."

Meanwhile, Malik's wife and Indian tennis ace has shown solidarity to her husband after he announced his decision to retire. Taking to social media, the tennis superstar wrote: "‘Every story has an end, but in life every ending is a new beginning’".

"Shoaib Malik u have proudly played for your country for 20 years and u continue to do so with so much honour and humility..Izhaan and I are so proud of everything you have achieved but also for who u r", she added.
