SDF Party Announces Candidates for Sikkim Assembly Bye-Polls

Gangtok, September 29, 2019:

The Pawan Chamling-led party, Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) has announced its candidates for the October 21 bye-polls to three assembly seats.

The party's parliamentary board, during a meeting, decided upon three candidates who will contest the high-stakes assembly elections in a bid to redeem the former ruling party in the State.

The candidates who will contest the bye-polls on behalf of the party are - Moses Rai from Poklok-Kamrang constituency, Nuk Tshering Bhutia from Martam-Rumtek and Rinzing Ongmu from Gangtok seat, an official statement said here on Saturday.

Bye-polls were necessitated after MLAs who had contested two seats, were forced to vacate one after the elections.

The SDF party received a jolt in the 2019 General Elections after the party failed to secure the majority, and the PS Golay led Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) eked out a slim majority.

Later, the party received further setbacks when 10 sitting MLAs joined the BJP, and two others joined the ruling SKM party in the State.

Bye Elections to 63 constituencies across Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, MP, Meghalaya, Odisha, Puducherry, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh will be held on October 21.

It may be mentioned here that Sikkim will head for Bye Elections in Gangtok, Martam Rumtek and Poklok Kamrang Constituencies.

In Meghalaya, the last dates for nomination and withdrawal are September 30 and October 3 respectively. The Polls are set to get over by October 27.
