Second quake in North Bengal within 12 hours; measures 4.1 on Richter scale

KOLKATA: A moderate earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1 struck north Bengal on today morning, according to the National Center for Seismology. The tremor struck less than 12 hours after a quake near the Nepal-Sikkim border.

At about 7.07 a.m. tremors were felt across the North Bengal districts of Jalpaiguri, Alipurduar, and Darjeeling. Sections of Sikkim were affected as well.

The epicentre of the second earthquake was 64 kilometres east of Siliguri, with a depth of 18 kilometres.

According to sources, the earthquake struck at 7.07 a.m., 64 kilometres east of Siliguri.

Despite the fact that no damage or losses have been reported, people fled their homes in fear at the time.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.4 struck Sikkim on Monday night, with tremors also felt in Assam, West Bengal, and Bihar.

The earthquake struck 25 kilometres east-southeast (ESE) of Gangtok, Sikkim. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres beneath the surface.
