BJP goons attack senior leader Badal Chowdhury: alleges CPI (M)

AGARTALA: The opposition CPI(M) on Wednesday alleged that the Senior CPI(M) leader Badal Chowdhury was attacked by “Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sheltered goons” in the South Tripura district yesterday.

Mr. Chowdhury, the deputy leader of the opposition in the state assembly and former minister was attacked when he along with other party leaders were holding a death anniversary programme of Dhananjay Tripura, a Kokborok language movement martyr at Manirampara village in Agartala, said the party in a statement.

According to the Left party, a group of BJP sheltered goons arrived on motorcycles and launched an armed attack on them.

Mr. Chowdhury sustained injuries and his vehicle was damaged in the attack, the statement added.

He was rushed to a hospital. The condition of Mr. Chowdhury stated to be stable now.

However, the local BJP leaders denied the charge while the police said the investigation on the matter is underway.

Furthermore, protesting against the attack CPI(M) took out a rally in Agartala.
