Separate Bodoland Demand Indefinitely Suspended by ABSU, Confirms President Dipen Boro

Kokrajhar, February 16, 2020:

Dipen Boro, the newly appointed President of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) has confirmed that the separate Bodoland demand has been suspended by the student body following the signing of the tripartite agreement with the Centre.

Announcing this in Kokrajhar's Bodofa house earlier today, Boro said that the student body, ABSU, is more focused on building "peace" in the region following the signing of the Accord.

Boro also said that all four factions of the NDFB have also officially suspended their demand for a separate state for the Bodos.

Addressing the press, the student body's President also appealed the Centre to withdraw "heinous" and "non heinous" cases against the rebels.

Earlier, ABSU's newly-elected General Secretary Lawrence Islary had informed Inside Northeast that the demand for a separate state Bodoland had been suspended for an “indefinite period of time."

Talking to us over the phone, Islary had said that after the signing of the tripartite pact between the Bodo organizations and the Government, the demand for a separate has been withdrawn by the student body, that was one of the key signatories of the Accord.

Islary said that the separate state demand was suspended on February 12 during a special convention. “Look, in the context of the current political scenario and to ensure peace, we want all four groups to stay together so that that all the clauses of the Bodoland Territorial Region can be implemented”, Islary informed.
