Chirang, September 10, 2019:

The Bodoland Movement organizations, while appreciating the Centre's move to bifurcate the State of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories (after the abrogation of Article 370), reminded the Government to take their demand for a separate Bodoland into consideration.

The Movement organizations reminded the Government of the pending demand of new states/smaller states which were also election commitments of the BJP in 2014. The Bodoland Movement Organizations further demanded the Government to take policy decisions to resolve the issues permanently.

The movement organizations also stated that since the party is in favor of creating smaller states, the creation of a separate Bodoland is a must.

Staging a mass gathering in Chirang today, the Movement groups urged the Government to take care of the protection of language, identity, culture, political representation, and land of the indigenous peoples' of the Kashmir.

They called upon the Government, which has sufficient majority in both houses, to create separate States/Union Territories, instantly.

Representatives of the following Boro organizations: the All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), National Democratic Front of Boroland Progressive NDFB (P), People’s Joint Action Committee for Boroland Movement (PJACBM) and people of proposed Bodoland area as a whole, wrote to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, with a set of demands, including the carving out of a separate Bodoland.

Stating that the creation of Union Territories of Laddakh without a Legislature and Jammu & Kashmir with Legislature was a decision of political convenience, the signatories added that it is also obvious that the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) has sufficient majority in both the Houses to create new States/Union Territories.
