SILCHAR: Pramal Suklabaidya, Assam's Minister for Environment and Forest, Excise and Fisheries, inaugurated several piped water supply schemes under Jal Jeevan Mission in Cachar district yesterday.
Minister Suklabaidya inaugurated the bulk dedication functional household tap connection with retrofitting at Allenpur tea estate, Norsingpur tea estate, Derby tea garden, Panibhora tea garden, and Paloi tea estate.
Undertaken at Allenpur tea estate, the scheme at an estimated cost of Rs.48 lakhs for at least 233 households seeks to provide access to tap water connections under the scheme.
Meanwhile, in the Norsingpur tea estate, the scheme is estimated to cost Rs.48 lakhs and has been extended to 184 households.

All of these piped water supply schemes were carried out by the Silchar Public Health Engineering Department, Division No.II, Cachar.
The minister said that the Jal Jeevan Mission, a pet project of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is envisioned to provide safe and adequate drinking water through individual household tap connections by 2024 to all households in rural India.
"Jal Jeevan Mission looks to create a jan andolan for water, thereby making it everyone's priority, " he added.
