Indian LGBTQ+film 'Sheer Qorma' wins best Short Film audience award at Frameline Fest

MUMBAI: Sheer Qorma, a short film starring Shabana Azmi, Swara Bhasker, and Divya Dutta has won the Best Short Film Audience Award at the Frameline Fest.

The film Sheer Qorma also qualifies for the BAFTA this year.

Sheer Qorma is the first-ever Indian film to win huge at Frameline Fest.

Expressing her happiness at the film's huge success, Swara Bhasker took to social media and wrote, "WE WON THE BIGGEST QUEER FILM FESTIVAL IN THE WORLD! HUGE!!!

Actress Divya Dutta also took to Twitter and shared the achievement and expressed her gratitude.

 

The film was screened as part of the Enby Love shorts programme at the Frameline Fest, directed by Faraz Arif Ansari.

The short film is a romantic drama that explores how love is judged in society based on gender and how people's perceptions of sexuality are formed.

Swara plays a Pakistani-Canadian citizen who travels to India with her sweetheart in the film (Divya Dutta).

Shabana Azmi, who plays Dutta's mother, finds it difficult to accept her daughter's choices.

The film's premise is based on same-sex love, and it is directed by Faraz Ansari.

The film is yet to be released in India.

Sheer Qorma was also just awarded Best Short Film, Audience at the 34th Connecticut LGBT Festival.
