GUWAHATI: Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina writes a congratulatory message to newly elected Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today.

"We believe under your visionary leadership the multi-ethnic, multi-linguistic nad multi-faith people of Assam will progress towards a more vibrant society and greater development," read a part of the letter written by Sheikh Hasina to Sarma.

In the letter, Hasina had briefed about the importance of Assam in the relationship that India and Bangladesh have been holding for several decades.

Hasina described the relationship between the two as warmth, depth and diversity.

"With Bangladesh poised to graduate into a middle income country, we invite Assam to reap benefits from our socio-economic development and growth trajectory," PM Hasina added further.

In the same letter PM Hasina had praised Indian Government's Act East Policy and to remain supportive of it as a connectivity hub between South and East Asia, an advantage that the country has acquired due to its geographical position. She said that the Bangladesh Government will remain "steadfast in strenghthening connectivity" for the North Eastern part of India.

By the end of the letter, PM Hasina called for a collective action to fight against COVID-19 across borders for countering menace.

Bharatiya Janata Party strongman Himanta Biswa Sarma is the firebrand of North East India, who played a major role in giving BJP an access to the region.

Sarma assumed office as CM of Assam on May 10 this year after giving BJP a landslide victory in the Assembly polls.
