Shortage of COVID-19 hospitals likely to hit Mizoram

Mizoram is likely to face a shortage of hospitals if COVID-19 cases keeps on increasing rapidly. At present, COVID-19 hospitals in the state can accommodate only 1,737 patients.

There are also six other COVID care centres that can admit about 300 personnel of paramilitary forces.

A Presbyterian church in Aizawl”s Tuikhuahtlang and the Young Mizo Association’s Tuikhuahtlang branch have offered their halls to be used as COVID care centres. These can accommodate about 70 patients.

The state government has urged churches and other YMA branches to offer space for such care centres.

On the other hand, the state reported 141 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday taking the total number of coronavirus cases in the State to 1,333.

There are 583 active COVID-19 cases in the State, while 750 patients have been discharged after getting cured of the viral infection. However, the state has not reported any deaths due to the novel Coronavirus.
