Sikkim CM appeals citizens to refrain from travelling due to inclement weather conditions

GANGTOK: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang has appealed to the citizens to refrain from travelling owing to the inclement weather conditions in the state.

"In the past couple of days, Sikkim has witnessed incessant rainfall, leading to landslides and damages in several parts of the state and have caused roadblocks at multiple spots. I am in constant touch with the line departments and closely monitoring the current situation. In order to avoid any untoward incident, I appeal to all our citizens to refrain from travelling in these circumstances and pray for their safety".

Followed by the inclement weather in the South Sikkim, the District Collector had directed the concerned DMs, Revenue Surveyors to submit report of damages earliest by 3:00 pm on Wednesday.

He directed all members of District Disaster Management Authority to remain on high alert especially the roads department to keep their men and machinery at Disaster prone sites.

Reportedly, the weather in the south district has caused severe damages ranging from ranging from crops, landed property and private houses.

Serious damages have been reported from Tirikhola, Rong under Namchi Block.

The victims have been provided with relief materials and then transited to safer location temporarily.

As many as 25 tourist vehicles were reportedly stuck at Melli Manpur stretch have been safely rescued and they have crossed the Melli Check Post.

The police too lent a helping hand in clearing the road.

As per reports. road connectivity is severely hampered with the road between Wok to Namchi is completely blocked till yesterday.

Earlier on Wednesday Namthang - Namchi road via Bhanjyang was blocked at Namchi View Point which was cleared later.
