Sikkim CM PS Tamang receives first dose of COVID-19 vaccine

GANGTOK: Sikkim chief minister Prem Singh Tamang today received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

The chief minister and his wife Krishna Kumari Rai were administered the Covishield vaccine at the STNM Hospital here.

Tamang later appealed to all people eligible for the immunisation drive, to get themselves vaccinated.

He also appealed to the people to follow COVID protocols and maintain social distancing in public places to help the government contain the spread of the disease.

Along with the rest of the nation, Tika Utsav commenced in Sikkim today. Vaccines are being administered at the urban primary health centre and Paljor Stadium in state capital Gangtok.

The four-day special inoculation programme will end on April 14.

Sikkim’s COVID-19 tally went up to 6,351 on Saturday after 22 more people tested positive for the virus.

Of the new cases, East Sikkim registered 21 while one was recorded in South Sikkim.

The state currently has 116 active cases, while 117 others have migrated out and 5,982 patients have recovered from the disease.

On the other hand, the death toll in the state due to COVID-19 stands at 136.
