GANGTOK: Sikkim Government Law College, Gangtok has bagged 30th position in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking this year.

The NIRF is a methodology used by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, to rank higher education institutions in India.

The Framework was approved by the Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and launched on September 29, 2015.

Institutions have been classified into 11 categories based on their areas of operation: overall, university, colleges, engineering, management, pharmacy, law, medical, architecture, dental, and research.

For ranking purposes, the Framework employs several parameters such as resources, research, and stakeholder perception.

These parameters were divided into five clusters, and each cluster was assigned a weightage. The weights vary according to the type of institution.

Sikkim Government, Law College Burtuk, located at Burtuk, Helipad East Sikkim, four kilometres from Sikkim's capital town, is the state's only government Law College and the state's oldest professional institution.

Burtuk Sikkim Government Law College was founded in 1980. Sikkim Government Law College, Burtuk now offers an integrated 5 year BA, LLB Degree, whereas it previously offered a 3 year LLB Course.
