Sikkim govt gives relaxation to MGNREGA and Tea Garden workers amid lockdown

GANGTOK: Sikkim Chief Minister PS Tamang has decided to give relaxation to the MGNREGA and Tea Garden workers amid ongoing lockdown.

As Sikkim has extended its lockdown till the end of May in view of the COVID situation of the state and CM Tamang has chaired a review meeting recently regarding the same.

R Telang, Principal Secretary Home, has put forward a fresh set of guidelines which to come into force from May 24 till May 31.

The new guidelines have allowed work under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) by concerned District Collectors inwards with no COVID cases. Temi Tea Garden will work with the compliance of 50 per cent employees.

There are some other rules under the released guidelines, such as no state government offices will be functioning during the period of lockdown as well as private commercial establishments, gyms and factories not producing any medical goods.

There is a relaxation for markets as ration and vegetable shops will remain open from 8 am to 11 am though it was prohibited during the earlier lockdown which was enforced till May 24.

Sikkim Manipal can hold medical exams.

Anyone moving on the road due to anything important or even emergency will be allowed on production of Identity Card.
