Sikkim: Heavy rainfall disrupts everyday life, damages connecting bridge

Several parts of the State road traffic have been reported disconnected due to heavy rainfall since last two days. As per the report, Soreng Sub- Division in the West Sikkim is mostly affected and disconnected from the rest of the State. Himmat Rai, SDM Soreng told over the phone that Budang to Chumbong road is blocked at km 1st,5th & 8th due to flash flood and boulders slip, machine on the way for clearance. Similarly formation damage at km 10th along Chakung- Khaniserbong road.

Incessant rainfall triggered also triggered landslides causing considerable damage to property in South district. Several slides have been reported from Dambudara, Tinzir areas under Namchi Municipal area.

Team of disaster management from district administration south leaded by ADC South Satyen Kr. Rai and TO South Avishek Kheral visited the area, assessed the damages and provided immediate relief to the victims.

Five families from Dambudara area had been evacuated and shifted to a safer location.

Meanwhile in Sikkim

The connecting bridge for Kagey and Lingsheykha -Lingshey gram panchayat was damaged by the underflowing river. From last many hours, there was heavy downpour which causes a rise in the volume of river and damaged the bridge. The mentioned place falls under the 38 ward of Block two, Kalimpong. The bridge was recently constructed. Now there is no vehicular movement and two places are completely cut off.
