Sikkim: Minor girl commits suicide after mother refuses her for picnic

An minor school going girl committed suicide by hanging herself reportedly after being refused by her mother for a picnic. The incident took place on August 14 at Rhenock under Rhenock police station in East Sikkim. According to the police, preliminary investigation reveals that the 11 year old girl had reportedly sought permission from her mother to go for a picnic to which her mother denied and even scolded her as she had to prepare for her examinations.

The deceased then in a fit of rage as usual had gone to her study room. After a while, her mother went to her room to give her a glass of milk and discovered the door of her room to be locked from inside. Her mother started banging at the door but she still not open it. The mother then somehow managed to peep through a hole only to find her daughter hanging.

Soon the mother raised a hue and cry and the neighbours rushed and broke open the door. The body was brought down and the police was informed. Policemen from the Rhenock police station arrived and sent the body of the victim for post mortem. A case of unnatural death has been registered.

The people of the locality along with the family members of the deceased is in a state of shock for the extreme step taken by the girl. A pall of gloom prevails in the entire locality now.
