Manipur: Smuggled timber, textiles, areca nuts seized in Tengnoupal district

IMPHAL: Troopers of Assam rifles recovered a huge consignment of smuggled timber, textiles, and areca nuts from Kamjong district.


The seized consignment includes timbers, 140 bags of textiles, and 40 bags of areca nuts.


The timber is estimated to be over 65 Lakhs in the gray market.


On the other hand the smuggled textiles has been estimated to be over Rs 2.36 crore, while the areca nuts has been valued at Rs 9.6 lakhs.

#AssamRifles troops in Manipur on 25 Feb intercepted & recovered smuggled timber worth approx. Rs 65 Lakhs & 140 bags of smuggled textiles worth approx. Rs 2.36 crore in Tengnoupal District & 40 bags of Areca Nuts worth approx. Rs 9.6 Lakhs in Kamjong district,” Assam rifles wrote on a tweet.

 It needs mention that four truck load of timber were recovered by the Assam rifles troopers earlier this week.


The seized timber was estimated to be over Rs.1.32 crore.


Moreover, eight smugglers were apprehended across the Indo-Myanmar border.
