The Tiwa tribe will celebrate their modern folk culture festival even in other places like Jagiroad from tomorrow. The rich cultural heritage of the Tiwas inhabiting Assam and Meghalaya has so far remained secluded from general public largely due to the lack of opportunities and avenues of preservation, sustenance and display. In order to highlight and showcase varied aspects of the lives of the Tiwas, the Tiwa Kanthijuri Sal Society, the organising committee of the festival, will organise the two-day 5th Tiwa folk cultural festival at ‘Sograsal,’ the venue of the festival, situated at the Sonaikuchi hill near Jagiroad in Morigaon district from March 17. The festival will start at 9 am with the hoisting of flag which will be followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp.
