NEW DELHI: Raising concern over India's slow vaccination rate, Sonia Gandhi, the president of the Congress, today said, the party must work to eliminate vaccine hesitancy and reduce vaccine wastage.

Addressing a meeting of party general secretaries and in-charges of AICC in various states, she said that the country must prepare for the third wave of COVID-19 and protect children.

She also urged party members to keep putting pressure on the union government to trebles the daily vaccination rate so that 75 percent of the population is fully vaccinated by the end of the year.

"Without a doubt, this is absolutely contingent on vaccination availability. We must maintain our pressure on the Union government, which has finally accepted responsibility for this at our party's insistence "Gandhi stated.

"At the same time, we must ensure that registration occurs, that vaccination reluctance is eliminated wherever it exists, and that vaccine wastage is minimised," she stated, virtually addressing the party leaders.
