GUWAHATI: Former Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma have reached New Delhi after prime minister Narendra Modi's cabinet meeting held today.

The cabinet meeting of PM Modi amid speculations of a rejig in the central Cabinet also hinted at the expansion of the Modi Ministry.

With all the buzz of Sonowal to be given a seat in the Union Cabinet, Sonawal's departure for Delhi after today's cabinet meeting is anticipated to be a hint that the speculations could be correct.

It needs mention here that Assam will hold by-elections in several Assemblies very soon and apart from Mariani, Udalguri, Gossaigaon, and Tamulpur, the by-election will be held in Majuli constituency as well.

However, despite the fact that Sarbananda Sonawal himself once said that he would continue to be the MLA of Majuli, before Sonowal's resignation as MLA from the constituency, the mention of Majuli by some of the top BJP leaders in the by-elections is still gray.

Meanwhile, the Congress party has already formed a committee for the by-election in Majuli.

It will soon be clear whether the expansion of Modi's cabinet will really give Sarbananda Sonawale a significant role.

Earlier this week, Bhabesh Kalita, MLA of Rangiya, has been appointed as the State BJP President.
