Assam: Sportspersons to get govt job on winning medals

GUWAHATI: All students from Assam who will gold, silver, bronze medals in games at the national and international level will now get government jobs, announced the state's Sports Minister Bimal Bora today.

Meanwhile, sportspersons who have previously represented Assam and won medals at Olympic Games, Commonwealth games, or Asian games will receive sports pensions.

At the same time, the state government also increased the sports pension from Rs. 8000 to Rs. 10,000.

Announcing this development on the sixth day of the Assam Assembly cabinet session today, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that this will create an environment for sports in Assam.

The Chief Minister further announced that the house would send a message of goodwill to boxer Lovlina Borgohain, who will compete in the Tokyo Olympics for a medal.

It needs mention that earlier this year, the Assam government also offered the job of a deputy superintendent of police to sprinter Hima Das for her Jakarta Asian Games gold medal-winning feat.
