AIZAWL: A meeting of the State Level SVEEP Core Committee meeting was held today to discuss campaign strategies for the ongoing Summary Revision of Electoral Roll in Mizoram.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of CEO Mizoram Pu P. Jawahar, IAS in the SAD Conference Hall, MINECO.

P. Jawahar in his opening remarks said that the Election Commission of India has directed all CEOs to launch a comprehensive campaign for the universal enrolment of all eligible citizens and de-duplication of entries in the electoral rolls.

SVEEP campaigns have been carried out at the district level by all District Election Officers.

This yearly revision was carried out methodically in order to purify and update the electoral roll by making necessary changes such as name, birth date, date of birth, change of address, and so on.

This is a significant responsibility of the Election Department, which is expected to keep the electoral roll up to date and ready on time. Another significance of the roll revision was that it included first-time voters from across the country, and this was open to 17-year-olds who will turn 18 on January 1st, 2022.

CEO also said that the draft electoral roll had been published in all the districts on 1st November 2021 and all claims and objections must be filed/submitted by November 30, 2021.

Thereby, the disposal of all claims and objections will be completed by December 20, 2021, and the final publication of the electoral roll will be on  January 15, 2022.

According to the guidelines, three senior IAS officers have been appointed as 'Electoral Roll Observers,' and the entire revision process will be completed in time for National Voters Day, which is observed on January 25th each year, he added.

Furthermore, the meeting reviewed the campaign objectives and ECI's prescribed strategy in order to identify gaps and requirements for the campaign at the state level. The Committee also discussed how the state's online Electoral Literacy Club (ELC) activities could be expanded.
