Siu-Ka-Pha statue to be erected near Assam Secretariat: CM on Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi

 

Sadiya: On the occasion of Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal confirmed that government will build a statue of Ahom dynasty founder Chaolung Siu-Ka-Pha in front of the Janata Bhawan in Dispur.

 

 

CM Sonowal attended Mae-Dam-Mae-Phi organized at Sadiya Higher Secondary School with the initiative of the State Government's Directorate of Cultural Affairs and Tinsukia District Administration.

 

 

"We can follow our ancestors' ideology to build unity among the communities," he said during his address, adding, "Ahom kings firmed the foundation of Sanatan Dharam by constructing Temples from lower to Upper Assam."

The Ahom community across Assam today observed the festival of Me-Dam-Me-Phi on Sunday by offering prayers to their forefathers and ancestors. Me-Dam-Me-Phi is observed on January 31 each year.

 

 

Minister Himinta Biswa Sarma also attended the auspicious occasion of Me-Dam-Me-Phi in Sivasagar. The minister also participated in the rituals.

 

 

Me-Dam-Me-Phi is the worship of the ancestors among the Ahoms. Literally, ‘Me’ means offerings, ‘Dam’ means the ancestors and ‘Phi’ means God.
