Guwahati, July 9, 2019:

India's football skipper Sunil Chhetri has overtaken Argentine legend Lionel Messi to become the second-highest international goalscorer, just behind Portuguese great Cristiano Ronaldo.

Sunil Chettri achieved this when he scored a  a fourth-minute penalty against Tajikistan in the Intercontinental Cup on Sunday.

Now Ronaldo, who has scored 88 goals for Portugal, is the only footballer who sits ahead of him.

It is to be mentioned that Chhetri also recently became the most capped player representing the Indian football team.

Sunil Chhetri is an Indian professional footballer who plays as a striker or winger and captains both the Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC and the Indian national team.

Meanwhile, Messi's woes were not just limited to being passed by Chhetri, as the legend was sent off during the Copa America's third place playoff match against Chile.

Al Daei of Iran has scored the highest number of goals (109) in International football. Ronaldo is second on the all-time list, followed by Ferenc Puskás (84).
