DOHA: Indian football captain Sunil Chhetri has achieved another milestone of his career as the player became the second-highest active international goalscorer after he surpassed football legend Lionel Messi on Monday.
Sunil Chhetri, 36, has scored 74 strikes overall and only a step behind Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo, who has 103 goals, to become the number one active international goalscorer.
Sunil Chhetri gave India a massive victory yesterday in the ongoing qualifier for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 against Bangladesh with two swift goals.
“He’s now got more than Messi! Sunil Chhetri’s double earns the Blue Tigers a 2-0 win in #WCQ and moves him on to 74 international goals – above Lionel Messi and one-off entering world football’s all-time top 10,” the FIFA World Cup handle posted on Twitter.
