New Delhi, April 24, 2019:

The case of allegations of sexual harassment against Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi will be heard by a bench consisting of three Supreme Court judges. The decision was made on Tuesday leading to a split amongst the judiciary members handling the matter.

As per reports, the penal will be headed by Justice SA Bobde, who is next in seniority to Justice Ranjan Gogoi and followed by Justices NV Ramana and Indira Banerjee.

During an emergency hearing on Saturday, denying the allegation, Gogoi said, “This is unbelievable. I don’t think I should stoop low even to deny these allegations." Gogoi further mentioned that the independence of the judiciary is “under threat”.

However, the Supreme Court Bar association and the Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association have criticized the hearing of Saturday and have demanded the full Court to take a call on further action.

Moreover, in a statement, nearly 33 prominent personalities including Medha Patkar, Arundhati Roy, and Aruna Roy sought an independent inquiry.

According to reports, the full court has passed the resolution to form the panel proposed by Justice Bobde and the decision was accepted by all.

It may be mentioned that the former woman apex court staffer had leveled the allegations against the CJI which was brought into the public domain by some news web portals on April 20 which has begun one of the most trying times in the history of the apex Court.
