GUWAHATI: Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar reacted to Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's latest decision of bringing a law against 'love jihad'.

Sarma, on Saturday, said that a Hindu boy decieving a Hindu girl is also Jihad and further added that the state government will bring a law against it.

Reacting to the Chief Minister, the actress took to Twitter and said, "What... nonsense is going on in this country?"

Her slam was seconded by some users while some others lashed out at her suggesting her opinion is not required on the matter.

"Swara , now hindus have woken up ! He sees , feels the efforts n outcome of appeasement , the inequality heaped on him under garb of democracy n secularity . He recognises the urgent need to put things back on track , knows that executive n judiciary r trapped in their own web", commented one user.

While another user wrote, "CM can't differenciete Between personal Culture and Law.."

This is not the first time when the actress has voiced against the issue of 'love jihad'. In November 2020, Bhaskar made headlines for reacting to the matter.

Reportedly a Twitter user had Bhasker why there is a  need for a law of Love Jihad.

The user wrote in his tweet, "Let us assume for a moment that Love Jihad is real & needs fixing. Why can't you prosecute using Section 366 (forced marriage), Section 415 (cheating), Section 340 (forcible confinement) & Section 383 (extortion)? Section 366 -> 10 years in prison. Why do you want a new law?"

Responding to it, Bhaskar cited 6 reasons, "To whip up a communal frenzy.. To have some more lies to spread during election campaigns..To criminalise young Muslim men..To control Hindu women and their sexuality.. To deepen fault lines between communities..To create false enemies & whip up mass hatred toward them..".

Love 'Jihad' is an unofficial term used by some Hindu groups to refer to an alleged campaign by Muslim men to convert Hindu girls under the pretext of love.
