Tarun Gogoi Appeals Assam to Safeguard the Indian Constitution

Guwahati, January 26, 2020:

3-time former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, taking part in a reading of the Preamble of the Constitution, urged the people to uphold the Constitution of the country to preserve its "social fabric."

Gogoi, who had attended a flag hoisting at the Rajiv Bhawan, the Congress party's headquarters in Guwahati, wrote to the citizenry and appealed them to "safeguard" the Constitution. "Glad to have attended the flag hoisting ceremony on the 71st Republic Day at Rajiv Bhavan, Guwahati where we all read out the Preamble of the Constitution. I take the opportunity to appeal all my fellow citizens to safeguard the social fabric of India as embedded in the Preamble", Tarun Gogoi shared on social media.

Meanwhile, Congress ruled states have taken a step ahead to instill the values of the constitution in young minds by making it a part of compulsory education.

After Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan have also decided to make the preamble a part of school curriculum.

These readings of the Preamble have come amid apprehensions that the BJP Government's imposition of the allegedly discriminatory Citizenship (Amendment) Act and the National Register of Citizens (NRC), seen as threats to the Muslim community.
