Arunachal’s Tashi Yangjom becomes the first Indian woman to reach the summit of Mount Everest

ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh’s Tashi Yangjom has become the first Indian woman climber to summit Mount Everest this season.

Yangjom, who hails from Dirang in Arunachal Pradesh became the first Indian to cross the summit this season on May 11.

She is the ninth climber from the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports (NIMAS) in West Kameng District’s Dirang village to reach the top of the world’s highest peak.

The state chief minister Pema Khandu congratulating her on Twitter wrote: “Congratulations Ms Tashi Yangjom for scaling Mt. Everest and becoming the first Indian lady climber to Summit Everest this Season. Regular Training at @DirangNimas has made her a strong mountaineer with blitzkrieg speed. She becomes the ninth climber from NIMAS to scale Everest.”

State Governor Brig. (Dr.) B.D Mishra (Retd.) also congratulated Yangjom on her success.

“Congratulated Ms Tashi Yangjom for scaling Mount Everest. A proud moment for the people of Arunachal Pradesh Urged Ms Yangjom to lead an awareness mission against COVID 19 Pandemic in the State.” the state governor tweeted.
