GUWAHATI: As many as 90 tea garden workers and staff members of the Zaloni tea estate have tested positive in the Dibrugarh district of Assam.

The Zaloni tea estate, which comes under the Tengakhat revenue circle of the district, had been declared as a containment zone by the Dibrugarh district administration and closed down the garden.

The COVID patients were sent into isolation at the garden hospital and two other vacant staff quarters immediately.

The garden hospital and the two vacant staff quarters have been into a temporary isolation center immediately.

Dr. Nabajyoti Gogoi, the District Surveillance Officer of IDSP, Dibrugarh informed that a vaccination drive would be carried out in the garden from today onwards apart from other measures like sanitization, etc.

The workers of tea gardens reside in very close proximity, which increases the chances of spreading the virus among the workers very quickly. Fearing the same several tea based organizations were demanding immediate vaccination in the tea gardens.

In a released notification, the District Disaster Management Authority, Dibrugarh had ordered to shut down all weekly hat/market on immediate effect which comes under Tengakhat Development block.
